There is nothing like a family brunch to kick off a great birthday and where better then my favourite local spot.
Hally’s is a charming little californian-inspired cafe in Parsons Green. A simple and unassuming place, with a real reputation for outstanding breakfast dishes. From ricotta pancakes, to eggs benedict, they stick to the classics. It is one of my secret favourites, which I am a little reluctant to share. It is a place I come a lot and have always put off writing about, but always one for sharing, I think it would be wrong for me to hog it to myself…
It is true that the best family bonding time is over food. Especially morning brunch, my favourite meal of the day.
Steaming mugs of freshly brewed coffee, perfect poached eggs and deliciously crispy, butter-slathered toast, cannot fail to put a smile on any birthday girls face. My parents know this only too well! After a morning of yoga, presents and lots of cuddles and kisses, the Ward clan headed over to Hally’s to enjoy some of the finest poached eggers in the land, and kick start the bday festivities.
My beardy man father and I went for the eggs royal with smoked salmon on rye bread. Mum got the omelette folded with chunks of spicy, grilled chorizo and roasted red peppers. Dash got perfectly ripe avocado on toast with chiili flakes and poached eggs.
Aside from the standard loose leafs teas and cracking coffee, they also offer my favourite, matcha lattes, with an option for almond milk (instead of the dreaded soy too.) Of course the obligatory matcha latte came out to play, as well as a rather delicious (albeight a little over sweet) chai latte and a slab of chocolate frosted banana bread. Triple deliciousness.
The best time to go is certainly in the week. Go on a weekend and you will find yourself waiting longer then it takes to buy a hen, lay an egg and cook it yourself. Off peak and weekdays, however it is a self-employees (or birthday girl’s) dream. Despite the abundance of rather loud yummy mummies and the occasional crying baby, it is also a great place to go with a laptop to get a bit of work done, if you are dining solo.

It is a rare and lovely occasion when my family coms together, so when we do it is always so magical. Having the sun out and three of the most supporting and wonderful people around me was the best way I could have hoped to start the day.
I pottered off to my morning meetings with more than a little spring in my step, fuelled, happy and ready for a rather special evening of foodie fun… but more about that in the next post. It is certainly going to be a meaty one to get your chops round, so do check back tomorrow. 😉
