We saved the best for last on the final stop of our Bali. Taking 5 days at the end of our trip to fully relax and unwind at the Menjangan Resort in the west part of the island. They kindly invited us to come and explore their hidden hideout to experience Christmas day in style.
The Menjangan (also name to an island off the coast) is perched right on the farthest corner of north, west Bali, right in the heart of a national park. The place is a total hub of tranquility, so calm and placid it was practically eerie. The only noise from neighbours being the croaking of mighty toads and squawking tropical birds to break the sounds of the waves lapping the shore. It might sounds like I am being tragically poetic, but it is the absolute truth.
The resort itself has little going on, but it offers a whole host of activities to do. Such as snorkelling and diving just off Menjangan island, which is known to be one of the best snorkel spots in Bali. Also kayaking (my fave), birdwatching and horse riding. For any lazy bones there is also a pool too, if you fancy a lilo moment with your book. It also has an amazing little spa in a hut on stilts overlooking to ocean, which offered a whole array of treatments, including the amazing traditional Balinese massage.
Now we get to the good stuff… their incredible food… served at both the beach and the headquarters of Bali tower. Both offer slightly different menus with a mix of tradional Balinese food and western dishes too. For the most part of the holiday I really committed to the authentic dishes the Balinese eat for breakfast.. Things like red rice porridge and soupy noodles but the Menjangan did a few few western dishes which were mighty hard to resist. These are the best dishes of the bunch. This is what Christmas day looked like.
If you are hungry, I warn you now… there is mega food porn to follow.
A mega omega breakfast of eggs royal with a side of avocado and the lightest pancakes with coconut syrup (for my brother, Dash, which I have recreated and will be posting on the blog). Followed by a spot of kayaking. A disgusting but oh so needed, wheatgrass smoothie (to wash of the residue of Christmas Eve’s Margaritas) and an edamame snack attack……
Followed by a read of Lena Dunham’s new book, a late lunch of Nasi Goreng and salad, more reading, a late night swim, a super prawn and mango salad, then bed.
A bit of an upgrade from the usual turkey overload, family dinner table quarrels and excessive port induced merriment. Sorry granny, if you are reading this…I love you really.
To find out about offer, deals and activities just check out the website of the Menjangan Resort here. Off season is a good time to come, it is a lot more peaceful and last minute booking is a lot easier.
I am taking another trip back to Bali in the Summer. I am going to be out there for four months, working on my next book and a few other projects. If you have any tips of places I need to see and trips around the island worth exploring, plus do let me know your recommendations below. All the tips you have been messaging so far have been fab
